Observation of the Month (or occasional rant)
On Saturday I went up to Lake Tahoe, which I have not done for years and just sat at the beach and just enjoyed being with friends and relaxing. It was awesome. I really needed that relaxing time away to just get back in touch with the inner me. The lake was just beautiful and clear and the clear blue sky stretched out forever to meet up with the mountains across the way that still had some snow on them.
Now we went with a friend who has four kids, and normally I just don’t know how to relax around kids, but this was a different story. My friend’s kids were just great. They were fun to be with and were intelligent and just plain good company. These kids reminded me of another friend’s kids who live in Eastern Washington and they were awesome to spend time with as well. For most of my adult life I have not been comfortable around other people’s children but these last two sets of children have been wonderful, and I think part of that credit really goes to their parents. One is a single Mom who recently divorced a less than admirable spouse and the other is a male who is a widower, and both are handling their single parenthood with grace, love, and just plain good common sense. I have also noticed that they both talk to their children and not talk at their children.
So if I were handing out awards to the great mom and the great dad of my generation, these two people would get that award. I am looking forward to the future years to see how these kids will do in the times to come.
